On their first date, way back in 1994, Steve learned Alayne was seriously allergic to cats — a potential problem for a fellow who had six cats of his own! Undaunted by the challenge, they fell in love, got married and built a “cat house” — a cottage in the back yard of their Seattle home — for Steve’s cats.
While the sanctuary has always had disabled cats, their numbers have always been smaller than the dogs because of the limitations with having only one person able to care for them.
Though few in number, our cats share the same zest for life that the dogs have. Whether they’re blind, or missing a limb, or wobble when they walk, they love life just as much as any cat.
