Jake the blind dog
Jake's journey to the ranch was the proverbial long and winding road, but after many twists and turns along the way, he and blind Buddy finally made it here. (See Buddy's page for the full story.)
Jake is a true hound dog – probably Redbone Coonhound mixed with something else that definitely had shorter legs! He's got that classic Redbone face and upper body, but we think his legs suggest something else in his genes, too. But make no mistake – he can bay like a real Redbone Coonhound, that's for sure!
Although we can tell Jake had been roughly treated earlier in life, he quickly responds to love and affection, and becomes a "wiggle-butt" when you start to make over him. He just can't get enough affection!

Though he and Buddy started out their journey together, they weren't very close and sometimes could get too competitive with each other. So we split them up and gave them new friends to hang out with. Buddy got a new girlfriend, blind Patti, and Jake hangs out with blind Allie and Travis, our dog with a fused jaw. The three of them have a big 1/4 acre (.10 hectare) fenced yard to run around in during the day. Travis, who can see, is always sure to let Jake and Allie know when anything interesting is coming down the drive.
